Pat Lyons

March 26, 1976

An article from the Spring/Summer issue of Zenith Express magazine named Pat Lyons as the General Manager of Uncle Sam’s, who may have been there from the start of the opening in 1972.  He came from corporate, and the article said he was about to be transferred to Boston to open another franchise there.  He was proud of the way that the dress code had been enforced, and the “dirt balls” with knives had been evicted.  Lyons said that they didn’t even have bouncers, just floormen who assisted the waitresses and no policemen at the door. There was a no-hit policy.
Some physical descriptions of the place included:

  • A dance floor that could accommodate 200 people
  • Floor-to-celiling panels of flashing red, green and blue, that pulsated with the music
  • A multimedia show projected onto walls with subects ranging from pro football to women’s rear ends
  • A pool
  • Shafts of lights shooting off a rotating glass glove suspended from the ceiling

In January 1976, the Club had a Winter Olympics, with games such as:

  • Tricycle hockey
  • Nerf basketball
  • Whip cream tug of war

Students got in cheap or free with their student IDs.  One time I forgot my ID and I got in using my friend’s, who had just used it to get in herself!
